In my Light + Love collection, I call on the wisdom of Pearl and Mother of Pearl. Pearls are unique among gemstones because they don’t grow in the depths of the earth but are born from the sea. They require no special cutting or polishing to maximize their lustrous beauty. Their reflective glow illuminates and amplifies self-love, empathy, and compassion.
The creation of the pearlescent layer on the mollusk shell begins with an irritation -- which challenges the tender flesh of the oyster. In response, the oyster builds up layers of calcium carbonate around the discomfort, gradually growing a layer of soft pearlescent mother-of-pearl.
