Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! 2021 is here!

I have never been happier to see a number change.  I wish you a 2021 filled with curiosity and joy. Thank you for letting me be part of your journey and thank you for being a part of mine.

I have begun work on a new project. Playing with my interpretation of an idea.

Can ornamenting the body be both an aspiration and a manifestation?

A mantra in a tangible format.

“Like a mantra bracelet?” She asked me.

“Yes!” I say. “Would you be interested in making your own?”

Her eyebrows lift. “Could you show me how?”

Inspired by her curiosity; I put together beta DIY Mantra Bracelet Kits, for a few of my friends.

“The logic of jewelry is such that it stands at once as an aspiration and a manifestation. It expresses both the subjective (what is imagined or wished for or possible) and the indicative (a statement of fact). Donning a piece of jewelry is a bid to be a better self; Wearing it affirms you have become one.” - Melanie Holcolm, Curator at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.

My aspiration for this project is that wearing a Mantra Bracelet you create, will be a reminder that you already are your better self. Everything you need is already within you. We only need to say it out loud.

WHAT I AM COOKING RIGHT NOW

I made a lavish New Years' day brunch for Kevin and me. It included a "holiday leftovers" omelet made with just egg and my new favorite Breakfast Sausage Recipe by Minimalist Baker. I made a few alterations. I didn't have quinoa. So, I subbed chickpea powder. I didn't have pecans. So, I opted for an almond/walnut mix. Also, we adore spice! Whatever spice a recipe calls for... I double it! All-in for flavor.  We pan-fried the patties in a hot oiled skillet. The result was a crunchy charred shell, a beautifully satisfying topper to the omelet/salad mix. I also made molasses candied carrot fries in our new air fryer. Yes! They are as good as they sound. For dessert, I grilled, buttered, and spiced red pears, almonds, and walnuts. Then topped with blueberries. Writing this is making me hungry!

WHAT I AM LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW
I am thoroughly enjoying the end of the year podcasts. All my favorite podcasters have compiled highlight reels of their favorite episodes of 2020. One of my favorites from this past week has been Don't Keep Your Day Job by Cathy Heller - Lessons of 2020 Part 1 and 2 These episodes are like a beautiful mixtape of inspiring lessons and stories about how to live a more joyful and creative life. So, good! I want to listen on repeat.

Happy New Year!
Thank you for celebrating the light you bring to the world!
